Therapeutic models

Over many years, Judy has become adept at a variety of therapeutic models in order to better serve her clients.

Judy offers an ‘integrated’ model of psychological therapy; meaning she uses a blend of therapy modalities, depending on our client’s theory of change, and what works for them.

The foundation of Judy’s work comes from a truly client-centred, strengths based way of working, which assumes all her clients (young and older) have their own wisdom, and she starts from there.

  • Judy’s core modality is the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) model, which is one of the mindfulness based CBT models. ACT not only offers very practical techniques to help better manage troubling thoughts, feelings and memories, but goes further to offer a deeper connection to our values as a way to guide us towards our preferred way of living our lives.
  • Narrative Therapy techniques lend themselves nicely to assisting clients who are creatively minded, and may be struggling with very critical internal dialogues.
  • Solutions Focused Therapy is a great model for getting really practical in how a client would like to shift themselves in the world.
  • Judy’s Family Therapy training helps her work from a systems model that’s especially useful when working with young people and their family dynamics.
  • Motivational Interviewing is also an excellent modality Judy draws upon, particularly helpful with tough problems such as disordered eating and self harm.

We can provide clients with space to discuss distressing emotions and events, and help clients create safety plans to support them through difficult times. For crisis support, we can guide clients to appropriate services within our local community.
